One of Tel Aviv’s most important contemporary art museums, the Museum of Israeli Art opened in 1987. It is primarily a venue for changing exhibitions of work in all media, including painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, video art and 2-D and 3-D design. Formerly dedicated (as its name implies) to Israeli art, the Museum amended its policy in 1998 and now devotes c30% of its programme to work by non-Israeli artists, where that work constitutes part of a cultural dialogue with, or has influenced the development of, Israeli art. The museum also incorporates a 100-seat auditorium, an art video library, a museum shop and a cafeteria (see p XX).
